Weights and Table Size

Table size is the first factor to consider when buying shuffleboard weights. Typically, most home shuffleboards range from 9-14 feet, and up to 18” wide.  Medium size weights are 2 1/8” diameter, weigh 9.5 oz., and are best for 9-14 foot tables. Longer tables require regulation size, or Large weights, which are 2 5/16” in diameter and weigh 12 oz. Using the correct size weights ensures that players are given the proper challenge in strategy and weight placement during play.

Tournament VS Informal Gameplay

Tournament shuffleboards must meet the regulation size of 22 feet long and 20 inches wide. This means that Large, regulation sized weights must be used with any table being played in a tournament or other professional capacity. If you’re hosting casual play, whether at home or your business, however, there’s a bit more wiggle room with the table size and weight size. The longer your shuffleboard table is, though, the more important it is to have Large size weights. Using Medium, or even smaller weights on a longer table will render the game unchallenging. Of course, it’s always a good idea to have a variety of weights for players to use, depending on skill level.

Indentation Style

Shuffleboard weights are indented on the top to provide better grip and thumb placement when sliding the weights across the playing surface. The different indentation styles offer a different experience for players of all skill levels. New players, for instance, may be more comfortable with shuffleboard weights with grooves all the way around the edge. Experienced or professional shuffleboard players might prefer weights with little to no indentation.
